Moments of Grace

I’m imagining a place of profound rest. This is not the afterlife, it is most definitely an experience in this life: a moment or span of moments when I set down the burden of striving. And a sense of well-being spreads like warm sunlight into every corner of consciousness. There is nowhere else to go, nothing else to do, no one else to be. There is just Being. Here. Now.

I don’t imagine myself alone in this restful state; I am with others. Maybe it’s with one other person or maybe there are several people, but this restful moment is so because it is shared. A shared moment of unconditional acceptance, where ego is gone and there is nothing to lose and there is no agenda. We see each other as we really are and there are no masks, no reputations, no needs or expectations, no inhibitions.

This is more than a sharing of words or food or music, this is a mingling of souls; our true selves seeing each other and openly relaxing into each other’s company.

These moments are not just in my imagination; I believe they exist in this life. They’re becoming harder to find with the pace of modern life, all its distractions, and technology. Yet I sense many of us seek these moments and even stumble upon them from time to time.

Moments of grace.
